What is Senate?
Senate of Pakistan is the upper house of the Parliament. It consist of one hundred and four members.
They are elected from National assembly and four provincial assemblies of the country.
Today on March third, the polling held in the assembly houses of Pakistan. Total thirty seven senators will be elected from federal, Sindh, KPK and Balochistan provinces. While eleven senators has been elected unopposed from Punjab assembly few days ago.
Who will Win: Gillani or Shaikh?
A strong contest has witnessed in the capital city of Pakistan today. The one o one contest was between Yousuf Raza Gillani and Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani was condidate from joint opposition Pakistan Democratic Movement. While Abdul Hefeez Shaikh was candidate from PTI and its allies.

Vote Counting
Votes are being counted after polling for 37 Senate seats in the National Assemblies of Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the National Assembly.
Candidates for all the 11 seats in Punjab have been elected unopposed, while voting took place in 2 seats in Islamabad, 11 seats in Sindh, 12 seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 12 seats in Balochistan.
In this regard, the halls of all the Provincial Assemblies including the National Assembly have been given the status of polling stations.
Shehryar Afridi’s vote lost
During the voting, PTI leader Shehryar Afridi signed the ballot paper, which resulted in the loss of Shehryar Afridi’s vote.
Asif Zardari’s ballot paper lost
During the Senate elections, PPP leader and former President Asif Ali Zardari also came to cast his vote. His ballot paper was lost due to some reasons on which he was issued a second ballot paper.
Hafeez Sheikh and Yousuf Gilani contest on Islamabad seat, 181 members of ruling coalition, 160 members of opposition.
Federal, Sindh, KPK and Balochistan Contests
There are four candidates in the fray for two seats in the federal capital. In Sindh, there are 10 candidates for seven general seats, four for two technocrat seats and three for two women’s seats.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11 candidates are contesting for 7 general seats, 5 for two technocrats, 5 for two women’s seats, and 4 for one minority seat. There are competitors.
