Local Body Elections in 16 districts of Karachi and Hyderabad on January 15, 2023

Local body elections in 16 districts of Karachi and Hyderabad will be held on January 15, Pakistan Army will be present as third-tier security.

Each voter will cast only 2 votes for 246 union committees in 7 districts of Karachi. Each union committee has 4 wards, voters have to elect the general councilor of the ward apart from the chairman and vice chairman.

Chairman and Vice Chairman will have one vote, General Counsel will have a second vote. Each union committee will consist of 11 members, and 6 members will be directly elected to the union committee.

The union committee will also include 2 women, one labor, one youth, and one minority representative.

The specific seats in the Union Committee will be chosen by 6 members of the Union Committee elected by direct votes.

The chairman of the 246 union committees of the city will be a member of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Council. The Council of the Metropolitan Corporation will consist of 367 members with 121 reserved seats.

246 councilors will elect members to 121 reserved seats in the Metropolitan Corporation. The Metropolitan Corporation has 81 women, 12 labor, and 12 youth reserved seats.

الیکشن کمیشن کے مطابق شہر کی 205 یونین کمیٹیز کے نتائج میں پیپلز پارٹی 86 سیٹیں لے کر آگے۔ جماعت اسلامی 68 سیٹوں کے ساتھ دوسرے جبکہ پاکستان تحریک انصاف 37 سیٹوں کے ساتھ تیسرے نمبر پر موجود ہے۔ مسلم لیگ ن 7، جے یو آئی 2، مہاجر قومی موومنٹ (ایم کیو ایم – حقیقی) اور تحریک لبیک نے ایک ایک نشست جیت لی، جبکہ کراچی میں 3 آزاد امیدوار بھی کامیاب۔

الیکشن کمیشن کا کہنا ہے کہ کراچی کی 30 نشستوں پر چیئرمین اور وائس چیئرمین کے نتائج آنا باقی ہیں۔ الیکشن کمیشن نے کہا کہ شہر کی 246 میں سے 235 یونین کمیٹیز میں انتخابات ہوئے ہیں، 11 نشستوں پر امیداروں کے انتقال کی وجہ سے انتخابات ملتوی کیے گئے ہیں۔

Karachi Metropoliton Corporation

The Metropolitan Corporation also includes 12 minority seats, 2 transgender, and 2 disabled seats. 367 members of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will elect the mayor of the city.

There are 25 towns in the city of Karachi, each town will have an elected moderator, and the elected vice-chairman of each UC will be a member of the town council.

Members of the Town Council will elect women, labor, youth, minority, transgender, and disabled seats.

Voting will be held on January 15 in 984 wards of 246 UCs in 25 towns of Karachi.

Election Commissioner Sindh says that CCTV cameras will be installed at sensitive polling stations, 8 to 10 policemen will be deployed at highly sensitive polling stations. He said that the Rangers will remain in the areas as a quick response force.

9 thousand 58 candidates will be in the field for the seat of Chairman, Vice Chairman, and General Member in the Karachi Division. 7 candidates have been elected unopposed from various union committees on the panel of chairman and vice chairman and a general member from Karachi.

Elections will not be held on January 15 due to the death of candidates for general members and 22 seats of Chairman and Vice Chairman of Karachi Division. The deceased candidates include 9 chairmen and vice chairmen of various union committees and 13 candidates for general members.

Central District Karachi

There are 45 union committees in 5 towns of the central district, and the total number of registered voters is 20 lac 76 thousand 73. Out of 1263 polling stations in the Central District, 360 are declared as highly sensitive and 903 as sensitive.

East District Karachi

There are 43 union committees in 5 towns of Zilla Sharqi, and the number of registered voters is 14 lac 54 thousand 59. Out of 799 polling stations in the Eastern District, 200 are classified as highly sensitive and 599 as sensitive.

Korangi District Karachi

There are 37 UCs in 4 towns of Korangi district, and the number of registered voters in the district is 14 lac 15 thousand 91. Out of 765 polling stations in Korangi, 318 have been declared highly sensitive and 447 sensitives.

Western District Karachi

There are 33 UCs in 3 towns in the Gharbi district, and the number of registered voters in the district is 9 lac 9 thousand 187. Out of 639 polling stations in the West District, 111 have been declared highly sensitive while 528 have been declared sensitive.

Kemari District Karachi

There are 32 UCs in 3 towns of Kemari district, and the number of registered voters is 8 lac 44 thousand 851. Out of 547 polling stations in Kemari, 164 were declared highly sensitive and 383 sensitives.

District Malir Karachi

There are 30 UCs in 3 towns of Malir district, and the number of registered voters is 743 thousand 205. Out of 497 polling stations in Malir, 119 have been declared highly sensitive while 378 have been declared sensitive.

South District Karachi

There are 26 UCs in 2 towns of South District, the number of registered voters of South District is 9 lakh 95 thousand 54. Out of 480 polling stations, 224 have been declared highly sensitive while 256 have been declared sensitive.
