The district is named after its historical city of Khushab.

Mrs. Sumaira Malik of PMLN elected chairperson of District Council Khushab on 22nd Dec 2016. But on 28th December  Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared it canceled. Now re-polling will be held for the chairman-ship and vice chairman-ship.
