The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the world governing body of cricket. It was founded as the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909 by representatives from Australia, England, and South Africa. It was renamed the International Cricket Conference in (ICC) 1965. While took up its current name in 1989.
ICC World Test Championship
The ICC World Test Championship is a league competition for Test cricket run by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It was started on August 1st, 2019.
It is intended to be the premier championship for Test cricket. It is in line with the ICC’s goal of having one pinnacle tournament for each of the three formats of international cricket.
Change of points system
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has changed the points system for the World Test Championship, with teams now ranked on an average of points instead of total points.
According to the decision taken at the ICC board meeting, the teams will be ranked on the basis of the points earned and the average of points available in the series instead of the total points to ensure that the World Test Championship final is held in June 2021.
Latest Points Table
Today on Thursday, November 19 ICC has issued the latest points table for the World Test Championship 201-2021 session.
Australian cricket team has emerged at number one in the points table. It has achieved 296 points, While the Indian cricket team gas obtained 2nd position. Which has earned 360 points. While the percentage of both Australia and India has 82.2% and 75.0% respectively.
England and New Zealand stood at 3rd and 4th positions earning 60.8% and 50.0%.
Pakistan’s Position
Pakistani cricket team has received 5th position in the points table. It has 166 points and 39.5 percentage.
While Sri Lanka is at No.6, West Indies at No.7, South Africa at No.8 and Bangladesh at number 9th position.
Test Matches Won by Each Team
So far India and Australia has won 7 test matches each. England has won 8 test matches. While New Zealand and Pakistan has won 3 and 2 test matches respectively.
