PP-23 Talagang Chakwal – Chakwal (Wednesday, March 15th, 2017) – Today was last date to submit nomination papers in by elections of PP-23 Chakwal. This MPA seat was declared vacant after the death of Malik Zahoor Anwar Awan of the PML-N. He died in Lahore on 22 February 2017.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP has announced by election schedule in this Punjab assembly constituency on April 18, 2017. Polling will be held on that day of Tuesday. Political parties are busy in finalizing the potential candidates.

PMLN announced his candidate for PP-23 by Election
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) has formally announced the canddiate for the by election of provincial assembly halqa of PP-23 Chakwal. The PMLN’s official candidate would be Malik Shehryar Awan. He is nephew of late MPA Mr. Malik Zahoor Anwar Awan.
Ex. Attorny General of Pakistan Mr. Malik Kabeer Awan and Malik Asad Ali Khan Dhair Mond were also expected ticket holder of PML-N. They were backed by MNA Sardar Mumtaz Mimmon, MNA Major Tahir Iqbal and MPA Sardar Zulfiqar Dulha.
But the central leadership of PMLN issued ticket to Malik Shehr yar Khan Awan.
An important meeting of Pakistan Muslim League (N) held in rest House Talagang. local leaders of PMLN formed the stretegy to make the PMLN Candidate successful. MNA NA-61 Mr. Sardar Mumtaz Hayat Mimmon formally hand over the ticket to Shehr Yar Awan.
Expected candidate from PTI
For the tickets of PP-23 the PTI held interviews of the applicants. Five applications were submitted for the ticket of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf. They were :-

- Malik Aftab Awan
- Kernal Sultan Surkhoru
- Dr. Maqsood Timmon
- Malik Yasir Patwali
The interviews of the said candidates has been completed. Party will announce final decision soon.
Latest News update:- PTI has nominated Col (R)Sultan Surkhro Awan for the by election in PP-23 from his party. he contested election in 2013 from PTI and got third position securing 23500 votes. In 2008 general election he was candidate of PMLN and lost the battle.
Sunni Tehreek’s Candidate
Sunni Tehreek has awarded ticket to Malik Adnan Latif for the by election of PP-23 Chakwal. He has launched his election campaign. He has claimed the support of all religious parties and organizations.
Final Conclusion
The main opposition parties has announced to support the candidate of PTI in upcoming by-election. An important meeting held in this regard. The local leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League Quaid e Azam (PMLQ) and Jamat e Islami Pakistan (JI) has announced the combined opposition candidate of PTI. Meeting held at the residence of PTI’s district president Mansoor Hayat Tumman. Meeting attended by PML-Q leader Hafiz Ammar Yasir, District President JI Doctor Hameed ullah Malik. Thus strong contest is being expected on this seat.
