The first-ever convention of global overseas Pakistanis is being held in Lahore today. The two days long moot will be addressed by the prime minister of Pakistan Mr. Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi.
Venue
The venue is the Governor House Lahore. Which is situated on the Shahrah e Muhammad Ali Jinnah (The Mall Road). The necessary preparations have been finalized. Banners and posters have been hung at the polls in various cities of Pakistan to advertise the Overseas Pakistan conference.
Purpose
The main purpose of the convention is to promote tourism and raise investment opportunities in Pakistan.
Chief Guest
Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Imran Khan will be the chief guest of the global convention for Overseas Pakistan in Punjab’s capital The Lahore. Mr. Imran Khan is also chairman of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI).
His political, party is in the Federal Government since the 2018 general election.
Speakers
Besides the speech of PM Imran Khan, several notable personalities will also address the global Overseas Pakistanis Convention. Chief Minister Punjab Mr. Sardar Usman Buzdar and Governor Punjab Mr.
Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar will also make speeches at the occasion.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar has ordered to cancel the first session of the Global Convention of Overseas Pakistanis residing around the world. The convention was to be held on December 23 at the Governor’s House. The reason for the cancellation is said to be differences between PTI groups.
Organizers say the convention was canceled for security reasons, but a reliable source in the chief minister’s office told this correspondent that the chief minister had ordered the cancellation because there was disagreement over whether the event was for political purposes.

A spokesman for the Overseas Punjab Commission told this correspondent that about a thousand Overseas Pakistanis from the UK, Europe, the US and the Middle East had to attend the event as it was the first of its kind. A source close to the Punjab Chief Minister said that some groups close to the event and some of his close associates who came to Pakistan with Punjab Governor Muhammad Sarwar wanted to use the events related to the event for their personal promotion. The source said that the Governor House was running the affairs in a manner which was against the policies of the Chief Minister of Punjab and only “like minded people” were invited from overseas for personal advertisement.
He said that the Chief Minister of Punjab receives intelligence reports from various sources, he was shown evidence that the people who were invited as guests were defaming the Chief Minister on WhatsApp groups and social media. These people belong to groups that are not ideologically affiliated with the PTI and criticize Prime Minister Imran Khan’s trusted Chief Minister Usman Bazdar. Powerful circles did not like the governor’s statement that the IMF was gaining control of Pakistan.
Syed Makhdoom Tariqul Hassan, vice chairman of the Overseas Pakistan Commission Punjab, had met Prime Minister Imran Khan last week and invited him to attend the convention.
When asked if the Prime Minister was aware of the cancellation of the last-minute convention by spending millions of dollars, the source said that the Punjab Chief Minister takes his own decisions and if need be, takes the Prime Minister into confidence. The source said that Makhdoom Tariq al-Hassan has done a good job since taking office and the cancellation of the event had nothing to do with him. Some people wanted to hijack the event so that certain groups could be promoted.
A source close to the Punjab governor denied the allegations, saying the event at the Governor House was booked by the OPC and the Chief Minister’s Office and was not a Governor House event. “We were told on Wednesday that the event had been canceled and no reason was given. The governor’s house is the safest place in the country and we do not know what the security reasons were,” he said. A dinner has been arranged at the Governor’s House for those who have come from overseas to attend the convention. Tariq Mahmood Al Hassan, Vice Chairman, Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab (OPC), said that the purpose of World Overseas Pakistanis Convention was to promote tourism and investment.
