In the capital, Algiers, Ottoman landmarks like circa-1612 Ketchaoua Mosque line the hillside Casbah quarter, with its narrow alleys and stairways. The city’s Neo-Byzantine basilica Notre Dame d’Afrique dates to French colonial rule.

The African Nations Championship, known as the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship for sponsorship purposes, is a biennial African national association football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football and first announced on 11 September 2007. The 2022 African Nations Championship, known as CHAN 2022 for short and/or the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship for sponsorship purposes, will be the 7th edition of the biennial association.
